Kiroheto

Have numbers of problems with this: its called ode to Kiriheto, and the general theme is about the seperation of man and beast mixed in with some 3/4 understood christianity. Mostly though its an adventure story for young men with some pretty unpleasant aspects strapped onto the narrative (this is Seinen after all), influneced by lots of the more outre end of 1960's cinema, theres even a little new wave, cinemawise. its like that movie with Ringo and Peter Sellers only not funny:

This is a visual representation of a mental breakdown:

Its nearly 1000 pages published over the space of a year, written mainly for the periodical format so it goes along apace. It doesn't have a great deal to say, but its pretty enteraining and theres some prime unpleasant cuts in there.

Contender for a good song?

http://www.mediafire.com/?24hdjdh0reo">

Pretty Girls Make Graves were a pretty good band to begin with, their first E.P. which this song is from is consistantly pretty O.K.

Their first album which was pretty consistant, had a couple of songs that were slightly more poppy and entertaining, with good catchy guitar, (thinking about it the main reason they probably got so much press attention back in the day was because they had "girls" and "graves" in their name rather than the fact that they had a girl singing, which isnt that weird).

That album got them big and then.. I think they moved to seattle and got all about the songwriting, and got some people from the band Murder City Devils. went all downtempo and and decided against guitars (which are for boys and not pretty girls)and lost the pop, the first single off their last album had wistles, not in a good way as the main instrument(!) .

Geek fiction serious

http://community.livejournal.com/hp_essays. Has some essays that go into quite alot of almost academic depth about Harry Potter etc,

There seems less antagonism toward popular fiction and "geeking out" in public, and "prevailing cultural trend of the assumption of the all emcopassing cultural influence cache that serious literary fiction in the public realm porports to exert" doent seem to go anywhere...

Arguably there is more depth and subject matter in many of these works that can be explored due to there being more periodical and less closed narratives than some of the more literary end of things.
All the great novels were published weekly.

Angel and Buffy (yeah), have probably hads the odd academic paper written about them. Some of the more recent popular geek fiction has pretentions toward being "politically resonant" and "spirtual" though you'd think seeing as this ..stuff would have such an impact on culture that they'd be studied, maybe not taken serious but studied.

Heres a trailer for a some kind of doc about homeless people in Osaka, its intresting (probably) there are some more videos about it on the "youtube".

Problems relatively widespread, so I hear?

It'd be very easy to get all sociological about the cultural differences and the nature of homeless in different cultural contexts:

The level of community organisation of homeless peoeple in Japan in comparison to other countries, (while i don't want to draw too many generalisations) is pretty intresting, theres more of a community ethic (of the homelessness that is visible). The problem does on the surface appear more endemic than it is in Western Europe say,

Those cultures that develop outside of normal society is something that tends to be explored, There don't seem to be too many links for exchange, it could be the nature of the problem, that there isnt that much cultural communication. Alot of these groups (that are based on public land) seem to be relatively stable communities. Could be intresting to see how those (dont want to use the word settlement) develop and asert themselves more, maybe play a more active role in their communities?

This is pretty contemporary, juxtoposition of line and panel with a decent soft granite vibe about it.
old school, tough worn stone that im sure would fetch cash if ripped up and used again, worn in and comfortable.
Semi grained panels, not so sure about the wear lines not as popular as some of the other paving but still reliable and firm under foot.
l' pave du brique, town centres have these everywhere and we should be grateful, possibly a more economical option, more of a cultural statement than functional. arguably not particualrly easy underfoot but an institution none the less

Why hasnt anyonw written about the political dimension of paving stones and how they denote class distinctions depending on the area in which they are placed. There are numerous types of paving, there is the "brick", flat pave and rough sand pave. but what do these mean

pictures and analysis to follow.
